My Style & Approach
Based on my extensive course work and professional experiences, I believe in approaching my clients with empathy, compassion, genuineness, openness, and above all else, collaboration. Nobody knows you better than yourself and I believe that everyone holds the key to their own happiness and fulfillment. I believe that my role is to walk with you down the path of self-discovery and provide the necessary tools to help continue moving you forward.
My hope is to approach each client individually in a holistic manner, taking into consideration the biopsychosocial histories each person brings with them to the session and using this information to explore the various factors which are contributing to the current levels of functioning within daily life and relationships. Personally, I am drawn toward solution-focused, emotion-focused, cognitive, and behavioural techniques in counselling.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
Feeling overwhelmed, slowed down, hopeless or alone? Well you are not alone. I believe that my role is to walk with you down the path of self-understanding, acceptance and fulfillment. My goal is to help you take control back over your life and empower you to move forward down the path you want to create for yourself. I believe in approaching each client individually with a full understanding of your life’s journey as well as the life you envision for yourself. I approach each client with empathy, compassion, genuineness, and non-judgment and work collaboratively with each individual to ensure they are the drivers of their own process. The therapeutic approaches I incorporate with my clients include components of cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness based practices and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). When working with children I will incorporate components of play and art therapy into my sessions to aid in emotional understanding and expression.
I work primarily with adults, teenagers, and children who are experiencing anxiety, depression, conflict within relationships, issues related to self-esteem and body image, dealing with the emotional impact of divorce and people who are in general just feeling overwhelmed within their daily life.
In addition to this work, I also provide behavioural focused services to children and adolescents using evidence based practices under the supervision of a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). I am currently working towards registering as a BCBA and have 7 years experience working with children and adults with developmental disorders and behavioural challenges.
Personal interests
On a personal note I love animals and enjoy cuddling with my cat and my dog, Nash (who sometimes joins me for sessions!). I also love traveling and being outdoors. During my weekends (both summer and winter), I try to get out of the city as often as possible for boating, canoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, campfires, and endless photography opportunities. Aside from working with people and animals, my passion in my free time is photography.
