My Style & Approach
My style and approach are rooted from my own experiences working with individuals – adolescents and adults – throughout the community to overcome barriers they may face. From these experiences, I have found that utilizing a person-centered, and solution-focused approach has been most beneficial in creating a collaborative and meaningful therapeutic relationship with those for whom I work with. I have a strong belief that all individuals have the ability to be successful in reaching their goals, as well as learning to develop healthy relationships and coping skills in their lives when provided with an environment that encourages and fosters independence, trust, and empathy. I believe that every person we encounter is unique and has the ability to reach the goals they set out for themselves, and I look forward to creating an environment that will encourage and aid in reaching these goals.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
I am a graduate of Yorkville’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program. Prior to completing my Masters at Yorkville University, I completed my undergrad at Guelph University where I majored in Psychology, and minored in Child and Family Studies. While practicing at New Roots Therapy, I am also continuing to work in the social services field where I have had grand exposure to various populations within the Durham Region community. Throughout my work in social services, I work with those who have experienced issues related to mood disorders, addiction, trauma, and abuse. Having the opportunity to work with those who are in a vulnerable situation, has allowed myself to better understand the importance of working with client’s strengths in order to create a collaborative and meaningful experience in order to assist each and every individual reach their goals. Individuals have solutions to the challenges they face but are often unaware of them and are intimidated by the complexity of a system that can seem daunting. My experience with navigating this system has allowed myself to ensure every individual feels they are in a safe and non-judgmental environment while navigating their current circumstances, whether new or old.
Personal Interests
One of my favourite things to do is to be outside and active. I am an avid runner and love being able to get outside during all seasons of the year and enjoy what is all around us every day. In addition to running, I love boxing as another way to get up and move my body. When I am not doing these things, you can typically find me reading a book, or looking for new places to eat and enjoy a change of atmosphere.
