My Style & Approach
My passion is to help others live lives that feel safe and fulfilling. I hope to provide a non-judgmental space where people can engage in a process of self-reflection and self-examination, and ultimately make sense of their experiences. I consider myself to be a spiritual person in that I believe we are all connected and profoundly affected by each other, but would also consider myself to be a "non-partisan humanist", as I appreciate and respect people of all backgrounds, orientations, and belief systems.
I consider myself a multi-passionate therapist in that I find great value in different evidence-based approaches depending on the needs and the nature of my work with clients. My therapeutic style is rooted in various modalities that are collaborative, experiential and grounded in an understanding for how power and privilege shape and influence human interaction, personal development and identity.
I believe that to heal, we must experience ourselves fully, even the parts of ourselves that we are most afraid of or confused about. In my experience, the only way to grow, heal or fully self actualize is to connect with yourself in mind, body, and spirit and to engage in curiosity around all aspects of Self. It is from this place that we can find a true sense of “knowing” and give ourselves what we need to heal and grow to our fullest potential. It is my mission to give you the safety, guidance, and the tools you need to find success in this process.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
As a graduate of the University of Guelph, I have my Master's of Science in Couple and Family Therapy, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Honors Psychology with a Minor in Sociology from Trent University. For over 15 years, I have worked in mental health through various settings. Though I have had experience with a wide range of concerns, my work has mainly focused on helping adults with emotionally distressing symptoms (anxiety/depression/grief), relational concerns (parenting/couple issues), and PTSD/C-PTSD (trauma/violence/abuse)
Over the last 12 years, I have continued to engage in consistent professional development in a variety of evidence-based models including:
Mindfulness
Internal Family Systems
Emotion-Focused Therapy
Somatic Experiencing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma (PTSD), and many other mental health problems.
Personal Interests
I love to spend time outdoors, especially with my family and friends. I am the mother of two boys, and I love watching them explore the world. Having grown up in the restaurant industry, I have a passion for food and cooking, including international cuisine. I also love a good workout at Orange Theory (to work off all that cuisine😊). Above all else, I find joy in having a sense of humor about myself, my kids, and the complexities of life!
