My Style & Approach
As a Naturopathic Doctor, I am proud to take a patient-centred approach to care; I encourage your active engagement at every visit and every step of the decision making process. It is my priority to create a safe space for open communication and collaboration, because your journey to wellness begins with a trusting therapeutic partnership. It is my goal to work with you to sustainably achieve your health and wellness goals.
I strive to know you as a person, not just your symptoms, so that I can better understand how all factors in your life may be impacting your health and potentially uncover the root cause of your concerns. This also allows me to tailor the treatment plan to you as an individual, to educate you on all possible options and advocate for your healthcare so that you can make well-informed decisions that are most appropriate for your individual concerns. I believe in helping you receive good medicine, whether that is through Conventional Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine or a combination of both.
I use naturally occurring substances not only to address your concerns, but also to help support your body in it’s own healing and encourage prevention of future illness. I believe that balanced nutrition, exercise, good sleep and stress management provide an important foundation for health, however additional support is often required through a personalized combination of targeted supplementation, botanical formulations (plant-based medicines) and/or individualized acupuncture protocols. I respect your unique healing process by applying the various therapeutic options on an individual basis, taking into consideration your values, needs and preferences.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
Fascinated by the mysteries of the human body, I began my journey to becoming a Naturopathic Doctor by obtaining my Honours Bachelor of Science (with Highest Distinction) in Life Sciences at the University of Ontario, Institute of Technology. I then went on to complete an additional 4 years of classroom and clinical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), obtaining my degree in Naturopathy.
I have since furthered my education by completing an elective, 2-year Clinical Residency at CCNM in which I had the responsibility of supervising 4th year students in their clinical rotations as well as assist in teaching various naturopathic and physical exam courses. As a clinical supervisor at the RSNC, I mentored interns in their final year of study by overseeing the care of their patients and collaborating with them to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient’s health concerns. In my time as a resident, I have also had the opportunity to be a clinical supervisor at the Sherbourne Health Center’s Community Naturopathic Clinic, which provides Naturopathic Medicine services free of charge to people living with HIV/AIDS. In my academic role, I have experience leading practical and didactic learning sessions in such courses as Asian Medicine (acupuncture), Physical and Clinical Diagnosis, Primary Care, Male and Female Pelvic and Genitourinary Exams, Emergency Medicine, Venipuncture and Vitamin B12 Injections.
I am actively licensed and in good standing with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), with whom I have additionally met the Standards of Practice for Prescribing.
Personal Interests
Outside of the office, I love spending time outdoors whether that is tending to my garden, going for a walk or snowboarding on a sunny winter day. I have a creative side that I like to put to work with various crafting projects from knitting to sign-making and many others in between. I enjoy taking it easy and spending quality time with friends and family; playing board games, watching a hockey game, going to a local concert or simply getting lost in great conversation! I also have 2 adorable cats, Chloe and Atticus, with whom I love to snuggle.
