Introduction

I began my practice with New Roots Therapy, and I am really excited to be doing the work I am so passionate about together with such an established practice as NRT. I am working exclusively with the 0-11 years of age population. I have been working in children's mental health for the past 22 years and, as I saw a significant gap in timely services for our under 12 population, I set out on a bit of a journey to explore how I can help fill this gap in services within the Durham Region. I have always believed strongly, and see the tremendous value, in earlier intervention - intervening earlier before challenges become even more entrenched in adolescence and adulthood.

My Style & Approach

Hopefully, you'll have a chance (if you haven't already) to have a look at the Child and Family Services section of the New Roots Therapy website, for both children under the age of 12 and their families, as well as services for parents of infants and toddlers as well. All of the information as listed in these sections on the website are all areas I work within for our under 12 population. I want to also share that I work with the child in the context of their family (i.e., parent-child work, family work, parent only work, as well as individual child work as needed). The format depends on the identified issues and concerns, as well the child's age and needs of course. But, irrespective of format, parents/caregivers are always significantly involved in the work throughout the therapy process given the young age of this population. I am also doing both in-person sessions as well as virtual sessions.

Education, Training, & Professional Development

I have worked within a Ministry funded Children's Mental Health Centre in Toronto for 15 years (The Child Development Institute), as well as within the Child/Youth Mental Health departments of a few hospital settings as well (Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Sinai, and Lakeridge Health Oshawa). Also, very early in my career, I worked at KidsHelpPhone as well as within a YWCA women's and children's shelter, for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
