My Style & Approach
My life has been centered around helping people achieve their optimal state of wellness and functioning. I work in a client-centered, evidence-informed, and strengths-based manner. My experience as a critical care nurse, specializing in trauma and neurosurgery has shaped my belief in a holistic approach to mental health. I hold the conviction that everyone possesses the innate capacity for self-healing; it is my goal to guide you, the expert of your life, towards your desired wellness level in the safety of the therapeutic
alliance.
Working collaboratively and without judgment, I aim to provide a highly empathetic and safe environment for clients to confront obstacles. My counselling style is characterized by a profound sense of curiosity, empowerment, and authenticity. I welcome individuals from all backgrounds and apply an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed social justice lens to my work. I am committed to understanding each client’s unique perspectives, values, and experiences.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I have broad exposure to a plethora of therapeutic modalities including CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, SFBT, and Mindfulness. I have been a Registered Nurse since 2016, specializing in critical care, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. My intensive care medicine background has allowed me to integrate complementary therapies with conventional medicine, enhancing care for a wide demographic of clients. I have pursued extensive studies in mindfulness and meditation at McMaster University, earning a certificate in the Advanced Principles and Practice of Mindfulness. My expertise has been recognized at national conferences for the GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada, where I presented wellness strategies through a biopsychosocial lens, emphasizing mindfulness and meditation.
Personal interests
My greatest joy comes from spending time with my friends, and family, including two remarkable children, a dog, two cats, some fish, and numerous plants. Alongside my partner, we cherish our summers on the lake, engaging in sailing, kayaking, and exploration. My interests extend to reading, travelling, and cooking, each offering unique avenues for growth, self-reflection, and discovery.
